President launches 'Kekulu-thuru Udaanaya' National Initiative

Gampola (News 1st): The 'Kekulu-thuru Udaanaya' National Tree Planting Program commenced today in Gampola under the auspices of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived at the Wimaladarma National School in Atabage, Gampola and registered the name of a student marking the entrance of Grade 01 students for this year. The President commenced the 'Kekuluthuru Udanaya' National Program by planting trees with school children. The aim of this program is to encourage the 350,000 students who enter schools from all corners of the island every year to love nature and to grant a secure environment to the children of the country adhering to the sustainable environment policy that was introduced under the 'Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour' Policy Statement. Under the 'Kekuluthuru Udanaya' National Program, 1.7 million plants including, Jack, Breadfruit, Coconut and Mango, will be planted in the coming five years under the supervision of children. The event was held in line with the entrance of Grade 01 students for this year.
