Colombo (News 1st): A proposal has been made to offer the Colombo Port’s West Container Terminal to India, foreign relations minister Dinesh Gunawardana has said.
“I must say that India’s freight traffic containers are the key source that feeds the terminal,” Gunawardana noted during an interview with a foreign media outlet.
He pointed out that Indo-Lanka relations go beyond projects and that bigger projects and investments would continue to take place.
Sri Lanka recently backed out of a deal that would have seen India’s Adani Group gaining a 49 percent stake in the Colombo Port’s East Container Terminal.
“From the very beginning there has been a commitment by the government…the negotiation failures also became one issue,” the minister said.
