Side-mirror thief arrested in Dematagoda: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Dematagoda Police arrested a 31-year-old suspect along with 16 pairs of side-mirrors, at a road block set up in the area on Saturday morning (Feb. 13), police said. "Based on preliminary investigations conducted by Dematagoda Police, it was revealed the suspect had removed the side-mirrors from vehicles parked at various places in Kolonnawa," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, several complaints pertaining to such theft were received from many areas including Colombo-South and Central Colombo. Sri Lanka Police believe the 31-year-old suspect arrested on Saturday (13) is among the group that has committed such acts of crime in Colombo. The suspect had sold the stolen vehicle parts to various shops in Panchikawatte area, DIG Ajith Rohana noted. Whilst emphasizing that stealing, transporting stolen goods, and the retention of stolen goods are all criminal offences, the Deputy Police Chief noted stern action will be taken against those who have accepted such stolen good. The suspect who is a resident of Panchikawatte will be produced at the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
