J. C. Alawathuwala questions decision on suspending tile imports

COLOMBO (News1st): Opposition MP J. C. Alawathuwala today questioned the moves by the government to nullify the gazette issued by the Prime Minister on the import of tiles. "Much like the sugar tax was removed for the benefit of their associates, we are suspicious as to whether this tax removal which was imposed only for several hours, was done so that their friends would be able to release a stock of tiles," he said. "In the guise of encouraging local manufactures, this Government is robbing the public," he added.
