COLOMBO (News 1st): Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa extended his gratitude for all those who have paid with their lives to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, in his message to mark the 73rd Independence Day celebrations.

“Our people’s dedication and patriotism to protect our beautiful motherland reflect how we, as a nation, have stood against numerous challenges and continue to do so in these trying times,” Prime Minister Rajapaksa said.

Premier’s message also extended an appreciation for the men and women in the frontline who are selflessly combatting the COVID-19 pandemic to protect the people.

“As we work collectively towards our shared quest to overcome these perilous times, I believe that the unfaltering Sri Lankan spirit will unite and stand strong in defeating this pandemic and emerge victoriously,” the Independence Day message of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa further read.
