WHO COVAX FACILITY: 4 MILLION VACCINES TO SL

COLOMBO (News 1st): The World Health Organisation has decided to provide 4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Sri Lanka under its Covax facility. Sri Lanka will receive the AstraZeneca COVISHIELD vaccine free of charge through the WHO's Covax facility, Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, the WHO Director-General’s Special Envoy to coordinate the global response to COVID-19 told News 1st on Wednesday (Feb. 03). The COVAX facility is an initiative of the WHO and the Vaccine Alliance to equitably distribute Covid-19 vaccines across the world. According to Dr. Palitha Abeykoon the first consignment of the vaccines, i.e. 30 percent of the 4 million doses, could be expected by the end of February 2021, whilst the remaining doses will be provided under several phases.
