Colombo (News 1st); PCR tests will be carried out in areas where COVID-19 cases are reported in order to prevent any spread within the country, said the Army Commander.
Over 19,000 PCR tests are carried out daily, said General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, and Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) on Tuesday (02).
On Tuesday (02) a total of 23,217 people received the Oxford-Astrazeneca’s Covishield vaccine.
Sri Lanka on the 29th of January launched its national coronavirus immunization campaign by administering the first shots to frontline health workers, soldiers and security personnel, a day after India gifted 500,000 doses of Covishield vaccine to the island nation.
As of Tuesday (02), a total of 118,767 people received the vaccine, said the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health.
