Country size irrelevant in diplomatic ties : Namal

COLOMBO (News1st): The land area and population of the country are not taken into consideration when forging diplomatic ties, minister Namal Rajapaksa has said. He made these remarks after Sri Lanka received approval from its cabinet of ministers to form diplomatic ties with Liechtenstein - the fourth smallest nation in Europe. "We will take steps to maintain diplomatic ties with any democratic country," the sports and youth affairs minister noted. Liechtenstein is known as a haven for the super-rich and for maintaining absolute bank secrecy over transactions. The number of companies in its territory exceeds its population of more than 38,000.
