COLOMBO (News 1st): A special team from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has left for the Marawila area to investigate reports of sand mining, the bureau said on Tuesday (Jan. 26).
This is based on the instructions of the Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera to launch an investigation into the incident.
Minister Amaraweera has further instructed to revoke the sand mining licenses of the individuals in connection with the incident, who caused harm to the water sources in the area by misusing the mining licenses.
It has been four days since the area residents started a Sathyagraha campaign against the illegal sand mining activities.
