COLOMBO (News 1st): A total of five people including motorcycle riders and pedestrians died in road traffic accidents in a 24-hour window that ended on Tuesday morning (Jan. 26), Sri Lanka Police said.
"From 17th to 22nd January 2021, 30 people died in road traffic accidents, while 90 were critically injured; 189 sustained minor injuries," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Tuesday.
According to the accident report, A total of 427 road traffic accidents were reported from 17th to 22nd January 2021, where 119 accidents were ones with vehicle damages.
Whilst emphasizing that there is an increasing trend in road traffic accidents in the country, DIG Ajith Rohana said motorists must abide by road rules to prevent road traffic accidents and ensure road safety.
