Charges against institutions that violate quarantine regulations

Colombo (News 1st): A special operation was conducted in the Western Province on Friday(15) to determine whether institutions were adhering to gazetted quarantine rules and regulations, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said. "1,311 government and non-government institutions were inspected" he further said, "Police officers and health officials observed that only 1,098 institutions did indeed follow regulations." "Charges will be filed against the heads of these institutions. If found guilty, court will impose a Rs. 10,000 fine and 06 months rigorous imprisonment." DIG Ajith Rohana added. Since the 30th of October 2020, 2549 people in total have been arrested for failing to wear face masks and practice social distancing.
