Cabinet nod to amend two laws

COLOMBO (News1st): Cabinet approval has been granted to amend the Land Acquisition Act to ease the process of obtaining lands in the country. The aim is to minimize the time taken for the land acquisition process and the payment of compensation, the government information department said. Meanwhile, the cabinet has also decided to amend the Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act, No. 04 of 2015. The objective is to amend Section 10 of the Act to allow suspects to file bail applications at the High Court instead of the Appeal Court.
