COLOMBO (News 1st): Dr. Palitha Abeykoon has been appointed as the World Health Organisation – Director-General’s Special Envoy to coordinate the global response to COVID-19.

Dr. Palitha Abeykoon is the Former Director of Health Systems Development at the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office and he also serves as a Senior Adviser to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health.

WHO Chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus appointed six Special Envoys on COVID-19, to provide strategic advice and high-level political advocacy and engagement in different parts of the world.

The Special Envoys will work in close collaboration with WHO Regional Directors and country offices to coordinate the global response to COVID-19.
