COLOMBO (News1st): The cabinet has approved a proposal for the appointment of a committee to study the amendment the Sri Lanka Press Council Act.
The legislation aims at covering electronic media outlets and will restructure the Press Council that would act as a regulator in the media industry.
“The freedom of citizens must be protected along with media freedom,” Keheliya Rambukwella, the media minister told Parliament on Wednesday.
He insisted that the government will not make unilateral decisions concerning the media industry.
