Colombo (News 1st); Individuals addicted to drugs will no longer be issued with a license to drive heavy vehicles.
State Minister of Vehicle Regulation Dilum Amunugama speaking to News 1st said the program to identify such individuals will commence in January 2021.
Accordingly, a medical examination will be carried out to determine if an individual who appears to obtain a license for the first time or appears for renewal of a license, had used narcotic substances within a period of one year.
The State Minister said if it is proven the individual has used drugs within a period of one year, the drivers’ license will not be issued to him or her.
He said this measure was taken considering the number of complaints received against drivers of heavy vehicles.
