COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka crossed the 40,000 marks of COVID-19 cases with 593 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the country on Friday (Dec. 26), the country's Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health said. All new cases confirmed on Friday (Dec. 26) were associates of the Diwulapitiya, Peliyagoda clusters, and Prisons, the Department of Government Information said. Thereby, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka now stands at 40,380. Meanwhile, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed one COVID-19 death was reported in the country on Friday (Dec. 26), raising the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 187. According to the Department of Government Information, the deceased is a 67-year-old male from an Elders' Home in Modara, who died yesterday while being treated at the Homagama Base Hospital. The cause of death was ruled as COVID-19 pneumonia. There are 8142 active patients receiving treatment, while 32,051 have recovered.
