Over 5000 remand prisoners released on bail

Colombo (News 1st); The Department of Prisons said more than 5000 remand prisoners were released in recent days and another 1000 are expected to be released by December 31st.
Prisons Spokesperson, Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake speaking to News 1st said at present there are 3087 COVID-19 cases in Prisons.
He said around 2700 prisoners at the Welikada Prison were tested for COVID-19 and only 122 tested positive adding the spread of the coronavirus has been controlled to a certain extent.
