Kandy tremors: BLASTometers at limestone mining sites

COLOMBO (News 1st): Measures are underway to install BLASTometers at several sites where blasts-related to limestone mining are carried out, as part of the extensive investigation into the minor tremors reported near the Victoria Reservoir, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said on Saturday (Dec. 12). The observations will be used in further investigations, Anura Walpola, the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said. Meanwhile, the Expert Committee appointed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the tremors is scheduled to convene next week, for the first time. The 11-member committee of experts is chaired by the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, Anura Walpola.
