Geminid meteor shower visible to Sri Lanka sky tonight

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Geminid meteor shower, likely the best meteor display of 2020, will be visible over the Sri Lankan sky tonight.

“Sri Lankans can witness it starting tonight, and it will appear to emanate from the Gemini constellation’s location,” Prof. Chandana Jayaratne of the Department of Physics at the University of Colombo Sri Lankans told News 1st.

The Geminids get their name from the constellation of Gemini, the Twins.

“The Geminid meteor shower will peak on Monday, the 14th of December from 2:00 am to 4:30 am where close to 120 meteors are predicted to emanate,” Prof. Chandana Jayaratne said.

According to Prof. Jayaratne, the specialty of the Geminid meteor shower is that it’ll be visible in different colours.
