Colombo (News 1st); 2467 structures including houses across 12 districts were damaged by Cyclone Burevi, said the Disaster Management Center.
The affected districts were Jaffna, Mullaithivu, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Badulla, Kandy, Puttlam and Matale.
Director-General of the DMC Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe speaking to News 1st said 50 houses were completely destroyed and 289 small & medium business establishments were damaged by heavy rains and gale winds.
He said an allowance of Rs. 10,000/- will be given as primary compensation and provisions will be made available to the local authorities for distribution.
Most of those affected are those engaged in the fishing industry, he added.
The Disaster Management Center said it will assist in the renovation of houses as well.
