Protest in Wanathamulla demanding more relief amidst COVID-19

COLOMBO (News1st): A group of residents in Wanathamulla staged a protest on Thursday citing that the government’s Rs 5000 relief allowance is insufficient. The protestors accused authorities of not inquired into their wellbeing after their area was isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They complained that they have to purchase goods at a higher cost due to this situation. The residents informed their grievances to the divisional secretary with the intervention of the police, before calling off the demonstration.
