COLOMBO (News 1st): In the past week the government addressed multiple matters, except the matters it promised to address, the Frontline Socialist Party told reporters at a media briefing held on Thursday (Nov. 26).

"On the 21st of November, the government made a decision to hand over 5000 acres of government land for the cultivation of Maize, to the Chairman of Avantgarde who robbed migrant workers and also incurred a massive loss to the government through illegal arms rackets," Pubudu Jagoda, the Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party said.

Commenting further, he noted that on the 24th of November, the Court of Appeal quashed the summons issued by the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, to provide evidence for a Habeas Corpus inquiry into two activists Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan.

"The Frontline Socialist Party will definitely submit an appeal with regard to the verdict on the Lalith-Kugan case; we will fight on both the legal and political front on this matter," Jagoda emphasized.

The Propaganda Secretary noted that on Thursday morning (Nov. 26) it was reported, the decision on whether to take up the case in connection with Basil Rajapaksa over the misappropriation of Divuneguma Fund or to release him from the charges will be made on the 30th of November.

Further commenting, he noted that Former Justice Eva Wanasundera who has been appointed as the Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, in an interview with the Deshaya weekend Newspaper revealed how she became a Supreme Court Judge.

"The former judge had conceded that Mahinda Rajapaksa is a close friend and that he had asked him to drop by at Temple Trees while returning home after completing work at the Attorney General’s Department. When she visited Temple Trees she was appointed as a Supreme Court judge. This was the level of friendship she had described during the interview. It is this person who has been appointed as the Chair of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption," Pubudu Jagoda, the Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party pointed out.

The decision to increase the number of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Justices, which was not included in the 20th Consitution previously, has been added at the Committee Stage level, the Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party further noted.
