Colombo (News 1st); Security Personnel at IDH detained a COVID-19 infected person for attempting to leave the hospital without authorization.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st a 22-year-old resident from Dematagoda attempted to leave at 06:30 PM on Sunday (22), and was detained by security personnel.

The COVID-19 infected person is addicted to drugs, said the Police Spokesperson adding the Mulleriyawa Police is conducting a separate investigation while measures are in place to move the COVID-19 infected person to a secure treatment facility.

DIG Ajith Rohana all previous instances of people leaving the hospital without authorization or making an attempt to do so are those who are addicted to drugs.

He urged the general public to inform health authorities of addiction and substance abuse when a COVID-19 infected family member is taken away for treatment.
