439 COVID-19 cases confirmed on Friday (20), 38 cases from SLAF

COLOMBO (News 1st): A total of 439 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Sri Lanka on Friday (Nov. 20), Army Commander and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said. Of the total cases confirmed on Friday, 435 cases were connected to the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster, and the remaining four were seafarers. According to the Army Commander, the majority of close to 160 cases confirmed on Friday were from Colombo and 71 from Gampaha. "Significantly 38 cases were confirmed from Sri Lanka Air Force, 36 cases were from Sri Lanka Police and Special Task Force, and 74 were connected to Prisons," Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva further noted. As of Saturday (Nov. 21), the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 19,280. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 5935 active COVID-19 patients continue to receive treatment, while 13,271 COVID-19 patients have been discharged following recovery. The COVID-19 death toll in Sri Lanka rose to 74 after one death was reported on Friday (Nov. 20).
