Colombo (News 1st); COVID-19 may not be the cause for people dropping dead on the streets as reported in social media, said Deputy Director of the Medical Research Institute in Borella, Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara on Friday (13).
Tests and examinations must prove the cause of death was COVID-19, stressed Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara adding the reports of people dying after collapsing on the streets could have been caused by various other complications and illnesses including cardiac arrest and respiratory issues.
COVID-19 patients being reported in Sri Lanka in hundreds is an alarming situation, he warned.
He said the COVID-19 numbers could rise in the future adding strict compliance to the quarantine regulations would lead to controlling the spread of the virus in Sri Lanka.
