Colombo (News 1st); The District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya urged residents to celebrate Deepavali or Diwali this year while remaining indoors.
M. B. R. Pushpakumara said around 50 COVID-19 cases were reported from the Nuwara Eliya District and 1500 families were placed in quarantine.
Most of the cases are connected to the estate sector and as they live in line-houses it has become a challenge to place those families in quarantine, he added.
If Deepavali or Diwali is celebrated outdoors as in previous years, it would pose a risk of the coronavirus further spreading in the district.
