Public complain of difficulties in obtaining allowance

COLOMBO (News1st): The public has complained of difficulties faced while obtaining the Rs 5000 allowance provided to families hit by COVID-19. Residents who were notified to collect the allowance from the Grama Niladhari offices in Boralesgamuwa and Bokundara were turned away. "Why have you gathered here? The allowance is issued by divisional secretariats," a Grama Niladhari officer said. Transport minister Gamini Lokuge said the government has not promised that all families would be given the Rs 5000 allowance. "...we will provide the allowance according to the old register," he noted.
