Import Tax on dried fish & Maldive fish increased

Colombo (News 1st);  Import Tax on dried fish & Maldive fish have been increased, said the Ministry of Fisheries.

Secretary to the Ministry Indu Ratnayake speaking to News 1st said the decision was made with the objective of securing and protecting the local fisheries industry.

The Import Tax increase is in effect from 27th October, she said, adding based on the tax percentage the levy on a kilogram of imported fish will be fixed at Rs. 200/-.

The Import Tax on dried fish will be Rs. 127/- per kilogram and Rs. 302/- per kilogram of Maldive fish.

Secretary to the Ministry Indu Ratnayake speaking to News 1st said at present the harvest in fisheries locally is at a high.

She said as a result the production of dried fish and Maldive fish locally had also increased.
