COVID-19 positive A/L student sits for exam at IDH

Colombo (News 1st); Facilities were provided to a COVID-19 infected female student from Gampaha to sit for the G. C. E. Advanced Level Examination without any issue, Dr. Hemantha Herath, Acting Deputy Director-General of Health Services told News 1st on Monday (19).

He said even though a student from Gampaha tested positive for the corona-virus, it had not hampered the process of conducting the G. C. E. Advanced Level Examination.

The student in question tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday (18) and was moved to the Infectious Diseases Hospital where she will sit for the examination and also receive treatment.

The students who sat for the examination with her were moved to a special Examination Centre established at another location.

Gampaha Zonal Education Director H. K. Mallawarachchi speaking to News 1st said the students sitting for the examinations are strictly following the health regulations and PCR tests will be conducted following the examinations.

Dr. Hemantha Herath, Acting Deputy Director-General of Health Services told News 1st a program was put in place to face such events when the Minuwangoda Cluster was reported.

He said students will be subject to tests at random, in order to detect the virus.
