Probe launched into death of suspect in police custody

COLOMBO (News 1st): An investigation has been launched into the death of a suspect in police custody in Pugoda, police spokesman Ajith Rohana said Tuesday. The suspect, 21, had been arrested on Sunday night and had died after being admitted to the Ragama Hospital due to sickness, the spokesman told reporters. "If there is a part of negligence on the part of police officers, strict disciplinary and legal action will be taken against them," he added. The investigation into the matter is being led by senior superintendent.
