COLOMBO (News 1st): The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology issued a ‘Warning for Strong Winds’ valid until tomorrow (Oct. 12). “Gale-force winds between 50-60 kmph could be experienced in the Southern, Northern, North-Central, North-Western provinces, Trincomalee district and Western slopes of the Central Hills," warned the Met Department on Sunday (Oct. 11). Also, issuing a Strong Winds and Rough Sea areas Advisory valid until tomorrow (Oct. 12), the Met Department said that in the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, wind speed can increase up to 60-70 kmph at times. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar, the Met Department noted. The Met Department requested fishing and naval communities to be vigilant in this regard.
