AG summons DIG of CID & Chief Investigating Officer over Riyad Bathiudeen's release

COLOMBO (News 1st): Attorney General Dappula De Livera has summoned DIG in-charge of the Criminal Investigations Department and the Chief Investigating Officer, to the Attorney General's office tomorrow (Oct. 12) over the release of Riyad Bathiudeen by CID, said State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General, on Sunday (Oct. 11). "The Attorney General further informed all the documents and investigative material related to the incident be submitted tomorrow, for the Attorney General's evaluation," State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said. Further, during the session tomorrow (Oct. 12), the evidence collected during the investigation will be reviewed. According to State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Attorney General will focus on how Riyad Bathiudeen was released, without the knowledge and supervision of the Attorney General. "The Attorney General will also focus on the reasons for the release of Riyad Bathiudeen from all criminal charges, especially, after Bathiudeen himself withdrew the Fundamental Rights case filed at the Supreme Court and a 'Habeas corpus' case filed at the Court of Appeal," State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne further said. Based on the evidence presented with regard to the case, the Attorney General will issue the relevant instructions to the respective parties, on future steps to be followed.
