COLOMBO (News 1st): A total of 35 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Sri Lanka on Friday (Oct. 09), the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said.
According to NOCPCO, of these, 30 were cases connected to the Minuwangoda cluster; consisting of 24 close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases, three staff members at Brandix apparel factory, and three other contacts.
Thereby, as of Saturday morning (Oct. 10), the total number of COVID-19 cases from the Minuwangoda cluster stands at 1083.
Further, five returnees from overseas also tested positive for the virus yesterday (Oct. 09).
According to the Department of Government Information, the five returnees are two Indian sailors, two returnees from the UAE, and one returnee from Kuwait.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 4523.
Of the total confirmed cases, 3296 cases have recovered, while 1214 active patients are under medical care, the latest figures published by the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health show.
