COLOMBO (News1st): The police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who harbour COVID-19 suspects. DIG Ajith Rohana, who heads the police legal range warned against hiding, harbouring, or assisting to harbour any COVID-19 patient or suspected cases. He emphasised that legal action would be taken against individuals who commit these offences. "... of a health or police officer questions you on the places you have visited you must provide the relevant details," Rohana said in a statement. He pointed out that the police will seize assets that are used to harbour COVID-19 patients under the quarantine and prevention of diseases ordinance. "If someone contracts the virus as a result of harbouring information they can be charged under the penal code. If it leads to death, that individual can be charged under negligence," DIG Rohana stressed. He urged the public to provide the relevant information on the people whom they have maintained contact and the places that they had visited in the last few days.
