COLOMBO (News1st): An elephant was walked through Braybrooke Street in Colombo as part of a News 1st exercise to highlight the human-elephant conflict. This was after two people were killed due to a wild elephant attack in the Devagiriya area in Galgamuwa on Sunday. Nimal Wanninayake, 40, and E.M. Piyadasa, 63, who are residents of Gallawa and Nithalawa, had left for work, not knowing it would be their final journey. They had been returning home along with five others when tragedy struck claiming their lives. The deaths of these individuals are among the many lives of humans and elephants that have been lost as a result of the longstanding human-elephant conflict.
