Crew of Indian fuel tanker anchored in Trincomalee, positive for COVID-19

COLOMBO (News 1st): All 17 crew members of the Indian fuel tanker currently anchored at the Trincomalee harbour have tested positive for COVID-19, Chief Epidemiologist - Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said. This was confirmed once PCR tests were carried out on the entire crew after one person showed symptoms similar to COVID-19. The ship carrying 4,000 Metric Tonnes of fuel from India had visited the Colombo harbour before heading to Trincomalee to unload the fuel, Dr. Samaraweera noted. He said the tanker and the crew will be sent back to India.
