Railway Development Projects including LRTS temporarily suspended

Colombo (News 1st); The Ministry of Transport has decided to temporarily suspend multiple railway development projects including Colombo-Malabe Light Railway Track System Project.

Transport Secretary Monti Ranatunga speaking to News 1st said the Finance Minister Officials advised to suspend the project following foreign exchange concerns.

Further, a committee was appointed to review all relevant projects as well.

Accordingly, the Ragama - Colombo, Panadura - Colombo and several other railway development projects will be revisited by the Committee.

The Secretary to the Transport Ministry said based on the recommendations of the committee, necessary steps will be taken with regard to the projects.

He added the projects will be prioritized and carried out using local funds.
