Bus Priority Lane rule in effect from tomorrow: SL Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Bus Priority Lane (BPL) rule will come into effect again from Monday (Sep 14), Sri Lanka Police said. SSP Indika Hapugoda, the Director of Motor Traffic and Road Safety of Sri Lanka Police said the BPL rule will be re-implemented under the theme, 'Resume Road Discipline'. The BPL rule was introduced to minimize traffic congestion in the Colombo City and suburbs. "The BPL rule will be in effect along four selected roads in the Western province leading towards Colombo, from 6:00 am to 10:00 am starting tomorrow (Sep 14), and until Wednesday (Sep 16), Sri Lanka Police will conduct an awareness program in this regard," SSP Indika Hapugoda told News 1st. The four roads are as follows: Along the Sri Jayawardenapura Road, the BPL rule will be in effect from Polduwa roundabout to Horton place. Along the Baseline road, the BPL rule will be in effect from the Kelaniya bridge to the High-Level road roundabout. Along the High-Level road, the BPL rule will be in effect starting near Anula Vidyala in Nugegoda to Pittala Junction, via Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Mawatha, Thummulla junction, Thurstan road, Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Public Library junction, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha. Along the Galle road, the BPL rule will be in effect from William junction in Dehiwala to Galle Face roundabout. "Once the BPL rule comes into effect tomorrow, it will be in effect for the foreseeable future," SSP Indika Hapugoda said, adding that in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic motorists, seem to have forgotten certain road rules.
