White Van case postponed to 22nd September

Indictments handed over to Ex-Minister Rajitha & Ex-Chairman of State Pharmaceutical Corporation

Colombo (News 1st); Indictments were handed over to Ex-Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Ex-Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation Mohamed Rumi in the presence of Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga regarding the controversial white van press conference.

Accordingly, the High Court Judge ordered the defendants to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 10,000 each and two surety bails of Rs. 500,000 each.

The High Court Judge ordered that one of the sureties must be a relative of the defendants.

The High Court also barred the defendants from traveling overseas and ordered them to surrender their passports to the court.

Court also ordered the finger-print records of the defendants to be obtained and called for a report on previous offenses committed by the defendants.

In addition, the High Court Registrar was ordered to call for the original case log on the matter filed with the Magistrate's Court.

The case will be called up again on the 22nd of September.

The Attorney General filed the indictments on the charges of Fabricating False Evidence and Conspiracy as per the provisions of the Penal Code and the Presidential Elections (Special Provisions) Act of Sri Lanka.

14 indictments were filed against them for coercing two men named S. A. Sarath Kumara who appeared as Anthony Douglas Fernando and Athula Sajeewa to make false statements to the media at a press conference on the 10th of November 2019.
