70 MPs apply for government official quarters

COLOMBO (News 1st): A total of 70 newly appointed Cabinet and State Ministers have applied for government official quarters, the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government said. However, according to Ministry secretary - J.J. Ratnasiri, there are only 30 official quarters under the ministry purview at present. "Therefore, plans are underway to provide quarters to Cabinet Ministers and State Ministers based on the need, distance, and priority of the applicants," Ratnasiri said on Wednesday (Aug 26). The Secretary went onto note that the Ministry is faced with severe difficulties in providing official quarters to 70 applicants.
