Returnee from India becomes the 12th COVID-19 death reported in Sri Lanka

Colombo (News 1st); A 47-year-old female returnee from India who tested positive for the Corona Virus and was receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) passed away Saturday (22) night.

Chief Epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health Dr. Sugath Samaraweera confirmed the 12th COVID-19 death in Sri Lanka Sunday (23) morning adding the victim was diagnosed with cancer and heart disease.

The final rites of the victim will be carried out today, Dr. Samaraweera said.

The Government Information Department in a press statement said the victim returned to the Island on the 20th of August and was diagnosed with COVID-19 upon arrival and the cause of death was a heart attack suffered while receiving treatment.

Accordingly, the number of COVID-19 deaths in Sri Lanka rose to 12.
