Colombo (News 1st); Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias “Pillayan” was escorted to Colombo by the Prisons Department form the Batticaloa Prison on Wednesday (19) in order to attend the 01st sitting of the 09th Parliament scheduled for Thursday (20).
On Tuesday (18), the Batticoloa High Court granted permission for Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias “Pillayan” to attend the 1st sitting of the new Parliament.
Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan is the leader of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal Party and he was elected to parliament in the recently concluded 2020 Parliamentary Election, after contesting from Batticaloa.
“Pillayan” is charged for the murder of Joseph Pararajasingham, a former TNA parliamentarian of the Batticaloa District, in 2005.
Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias “Pillayan” is currently placed in remand custody.
