Otter Aquatic Club facing shutdown over tax dues

COLOMBO (News1st): The Otter Aquatic Club in Colombo has been asked to vacate its land over the failure to pay taxes, officials said. Recently, the Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat had informed the 87-year old club to transfer its ownership on or before September 30. The taxes that are due to be paid stands at Rs 30 million, the chairman of the club told News 1st. A portion of its land would be sold off to construct a supermarket to settle the due payments, according to the chairman. The sports club was established in 1933 and has more than 5000 members among which 3000 pay annual membership fees.
