Vote on Account to be presented in Parliament - report

COLOMBO (News1st): A Vote on Account for Rs 1.6 trillion is to be presented in parliament by the government, the Sunday Times has reported. The expenses will cover costs for construction projects, repayment of foreign loans and new road and power projects, according to the report. A budget proposal will be put forward by the end of this year, Shehan Semasinghe, the state minister of Development of Samurdhi Home Economy, Microfinance, and Self-Employment said. "The people can have faith that the budget proposal that will be presented at the end of this year will end the dark economic period during the last four years," he added. Dr Ajith Nivard Cabraal, the state minister of finance, said it is important to engage in policy-based politics. "We need to move away from politics where people were promised concessions, and deceived," the state minister said on Sunday.
