Colombo (News 1st); The wearing of face masks has been made compulsory for Members of Parliament.

Sergeant-at-Arms of the Parliament, Narendra Fernando said, this step has been taken in line with the prescribed health guidelines provided by the health authorities in order to conduct parliament.

The Sergeant-at-arms went on to note, the entire parliament has been disinfected and health guidelines such as washing hands, maintaining social distancing (by leaving a two and a half metre distance between seats), wearing face masks, temperature checks, sitting in the seat reserved for them only and wear the face masks at all times including when addressing the house, have been made compulsory.

He went on to note, only half of the seating capacity of the galleries will be open for the audience, where a minister can only invite one family member and outsiders will not be allowed to enter until further notice.
