50 drug networks operating in Western Province; Police

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police identified more than 50 networks operated by drug traffickers in the Western Province alone, said Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Speaking to News 1st, he said a suspect engaged in large-scale trafficking of drugs had over Rs. 27 Million worth of transactions in his bank accounts during the past two months alone.

Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne said drug traffickers are targeting children and youth, especially young females through the sale of these drugs such as MDMA and Mandy, which are synthetic club drugs.

Further, drug traffickers are also recruiting young individuals to serve as mules, said the Police Spokesperson.
