175 Members of Parliament complete online registration

COLOMBO (News 1st): Close to 175 Members of Parliament have registered in parliament via online, Parliament of Sri Lanka said. "175 Members elected to the 9th parliament, which is scheduled to convene on the 20th of August have submitted their details by completing the online registration," Neil Iddawela, the Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament said on Saturday (Aug 15). The online registration period allocated for MPs will conclude today (Aug 15). During the online registration process, information on the educational qualifications, professional qualifications, photographs, and religion of the elected members will be collected. Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, Neil Iddawela has requested all newly elected MPs to fill the online application and complete the registration process before the portal closes on Saturday (Aug 15), as the details are required for MPs to take oaths in Parliament, when it convenes on 20th August. The inaugural meeting of the 9th parliament will commence at 9:30 am on the 20th of August, a communique issued by the Parliament of Sri Lanka said on Friday (Aug 14). The new Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and several other appointments are to be made on that day, followed by all MPs taking their oath. The Speaker will then adjourn Parliament until 3:00 pm on the same day, the communique further read. According to the communique, the inaugural meeting of the 9th parliament will be presided by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Head of State will present the Policy Statement of the new Government to Parliament on the 20th of August at 3:00 pm.
