COLOMBO (News1st): Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa engaged in religious observances in Anuradhapura on Thursday.

The Prime Minister paid respects to Buddhist leaders during his visit.

“The time has come for you to fulfil your duty,” Ven. Ralapanawe Dhammajoni Thero, the Adhikarana Sanghanayake of the North Central Province said.

Rajapaksa obtained his blessings from the chief incumbent of Mirisawetiya, Ven. Eethalawatunu Wawe Gnanathilaka Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Mirisawetiya Raja Maha Viharaya.

The thero highlighted the need for a water-related project in the area.

“There are 28 kilometres of the Moragakahakanda Reservoir. However, they are below the earth,” Ven. Eethalawatunu Wawe Gnanathilaka Thero said.

He added that the project would cost 750 million US dollars. “If we can do it, it will be of utmost importance,” the chief incumbent noted.
