Colombo (News 1st);  The swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister and Cabinet of Ministers is unconstitutional, says General Secretary of the United Socialist Party Siritunga Jayasuriya.

He said those who were sworn-in following the election victory are yet to take oaths as Members of Parliament, adding the Prime Minister and the Cabinet are those who are yet to be recognized as MPs.

Siritunga Jayasuriya said as per the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, the President cannot hold a Ministerial Portfolio, however, the President now holds the Ministry of Defence.

He said the situation at present appears like the one which aims to further strengthen the existing constitution to further increase the powers of the President to engage in a path of dictatorial governance.

" This government is like a road roller, which is attempting to move forward by crushing all other ideas," said the General Secretary of the United Socialists Party.
