COLOMBO (News 1st): Two people were arrested on Wednesday (Aug 2), for offences committed at polling stations, Police said. "The arrests were made in Nawalapitiya and Piliyandala over taking photographs of ballot papers and making them public," SSP Jaliya Senaratne - the Police Media Spokesperson told reporters on Wednesday (Aug 2). According to SSP Senaratne the suspect arrested from Nawalapitiya was remanded after being produced at the Nawalapitiya Court; while the suspect arrested from Piliyandala was released on bail upon being produced at the Kesbewa Court. "Several arrests were made in Puchchaweli, Bogaha-kumbura, Nittambuwa and Welambada over the distribution of leaflets containing photographs and preferential numbers of contestants within the 500 m radius of polling stations," he further noted addressing the police media briefing held today.
